Coming Soon... (2024)

This project looks at the phenomenon of seafarer abandonment, in which ship-owners dis-own their ships, leaving workers trapped on board without pay, or the ability to disembark, affecting over 2,000 people per year. "Distance from Zero" looks at the ideological implications at stake within the legal paradoxes (international maritime law) that allow for such violent worker abuses to even be possible. Much of this project was filmed on site at the MV Aman (pictured below, off the coast of Addabiya, Egypt), a ship that has been stranded for 7 years now, 4 of which Mohammed Aisha was trapped on board all alone, without being able to touch land.
